Focus Groups

Commitment Group is a closed, six month small group of men or women who meet weekly. The group provides consistency and opportunities for healthy intimacy in same-sex relationships. It provides a higher level of accountability than our Open Group meeting, and facilitates interdependence with others. Being accountable to one another means being transparent, taking risks in the group, sharing honestly about one's thoughts and feelings, doubts and fears, and successes and failures. Commitment Group is a place for confession. As James tells us "Confess your sins one to another, so that you may be healed" (James 5:16). As group members share deeply about themselves, confession leading to healing does take place. Participants give other group members permission to know them and to ask about their "growing edges."

Survivors of Abuse is a closed, six month small group, that meets weekly and is designed to provide the opportunity to explore the effects of sexual, emotional, physical, and/or spiritual abuse in the life of each participant. It means a deeper level of commitment to the healing process because this group explores areas of people’s lives that many have tried to forget. Great care is taken to make sure that no one is re-abused in the process and to help people see God's interaction in their lives both in the present and in the past.

Growth Group is a weekly closed group six months in duration of an equal number of men and women. It is designed to explore roadblocks and barriers in the development of relationship with members of the opposite gender. Its format is the most highly structured support group offered at WGA at this time.

Going Deeper with God is a discussion study on how to have a personal interactive relationship with God. The material explores how to have honesty with God mentally, emotionally, spiritually and volitionally. This material helps you look inward to realize your personal beliefs about God and how you desire to relate to God in a give and take relationship. Discussions are a combination of the material, your honest reactions to what you have been taught about God and how you really feel about God. It is made of men and women and meets weekly for about 14 weeks.
